What shall we do with the drunken painter?

This morning I turned this (note maroon suede-finish feature wall and 100% free dining setting, now sold on ee-beigh) ...

into this ...

I really wanted Bristol "Dragon" green, just because it was called "Dragon", but this here "Canopy" looked poifect on the paint card, even when pressed against the pinks of the new Harlot mess hall. Now it's up there on the wall I'm getting the cold foots. Would Dragon have been better after all? That's a lot of unrelieved Canopy for one room. I'm wondering whether I should soften it with a floral potato-print in white.

(Also! I ripped up several hundred dollars worth of almost new carpet in a couple of minutes! And there I was thinking that essay marking was fun.)

The turquoise is very you, though. I suppose it depends on whether you wish to hit your visitors with the full force of your personality when they enter the premises or if you prefer to usher them in gradually.

Carpet just seems like too much effort once one has lived with floorboards, especially if you have pets.

I'm warming to the full force of my personality. I think once I do the white detail on the window frames and picture rail, and get some furniture into the room, it'll look a little less underwater.

The floorboards are just cause I'm nostalgic for Leichhardt. If I could justify getting a mantlepiece and an Italian biscuit joint round the corner I would.

Yes, you're probably nervous about it because it doesn't have anything to break it up yet.

I imagine Leichhardt was a rambling, Victorian pile. Floorboards can be pragmatic though- the effect of a dog and four cats on carpet doesn't bear thinking about. Floorboards also match the books-and-newspapers-stacked-high variety of messy. And, if you manage to collect a wallpaper budget again, you can blow it on some fantastic rugs and mats.

The dog and the four cats will just merrily have their effect on the fantastic rugs and mats then. Hell, some of them will just do their effects on the sofa as they sleep, and don't even bother to get up and move along to an non-effected portion.

Good point, Lucy, though I tend to think it best not to mention the effect of four cats and a dog on rugs, mats and sofas, having been raised to never reveal to anyone how I really live and what may or may not have previously happened to the place where they are sitting.
