Tress test

Mikhail Bakhtin (good friend of mine; nice glasses; not doing so well these days) once said, "It is impossible to lift myself up by my own hair." Obviously that was true for him. He didn't have much hair. And it's probably true for me too. I don't have much hair either. But the rest of you, I don't see what's stopping you.

I could probably lift my entire family with my hair (which is especially wild at present) and I'd be perfectly happy to lend you some, if you are so inclined.

Well, exactly. Someone like you could *easily* lift herself with her own hair.

Now to the question of the omnipotent God making a stone he can't lift ...

Sounds like you may have discovered the secret of anti-gravity there.

This may mean humans can fulfill their long-held dream to voyage to the stars.

EBB is raised by her hair:

I thought once how Theocritus had sung
Of the sweet years, the dear and wished-for years,
Who each one in a gracious hand appears
To bear a gift for mortals, old or young:
And, as I mused it in his antique tongue,
I saw, in gradual vision through my tears,
The sweet, sad years, the melancholy years,
Those of my own life, who by turns had flung
A shadow across me. Straightway I was 'ware,
So weeping, how a mystic Shape did move
Behind me, and drew me backward by the hair;
And a voice said in mastery, while I strove, ---
'Guess now who holds thee?' --- 'Death,' I said. But, there,
The silver answer rang, --- 'Not Death, but Love.'

And Leo Bloom is lifted by his coat-tails!

(ULLA enters MAX and LEO's office.)

LEO: Help me! Help me!

(ULLA looks around for where the voice is coming from and eventually finds LEO hung up on the coat rack on the door)

ULLA: Now how did you get up there? Ulla knows! You lifted up your coat while you were still in it!

Ah, you kids. You should hire yourselves out as anthologists' helpmeets.
