Captain Robert Hunt was the fourth commandant of the convict settlement of Norfolk Island between November 1828 and February 1829. That's not very long.
I know. I mean, I don't know, but the facts suggest other facts that I would like to be facts in my possession. The previous dude was court martialled back to Sydney for killing a convict. I hafta say, Pacific Gothic is a vastly underexploited genre.
It might have something to do with the 57th regiment marching off to battle in India in September (after they'd held a marvellous ball to impress the gels). But I could be wrong.

I suppose that makes Gould's Book Of Fish Vandemonian Gothic. Or Bass Gothic, which doesn't sound quite as exciting.
