Lucky 100th Post!

Dear scholars and internetians,

This is Lexicon Harlot's Grand One Hundredth Entry, and to celebrate, here's a picture of a hedgehog ...

Aw. And to think that you can find them just across the Tasman Sea.

Thanks for your patronage. It's been a blast. Stay tuned for more incisive commentary on the things that really matter (Thai eggplants, etc).

Yours to hand,
Lexicon

Hooray for post 99! It's not a square number, but it is 33 multiplied by 3! Hooray for gratuitous pictures of hedgehogs!

Hooray also for my mother's baked hedgehog, much better than the nonsense they sell in cafes under the fallacious name of 'hedgehog'!

I've only ever had homemade hedgehog once - courtesy of former housemate Hanna - and she put all the ingredients into a baking tray (molten chocolate, walnuts, coconut, slices of biscuit, cocoa, butter, etc) and then refrigerated the hedgehog, rather than baking him. But I can't imagine anything baked out of those ingredients going too wrong.

I admit sheepishly that my mother's hedgehog recipe is not baked, either, but frozen. I threw that line in there simply to indicate that the hedgehog fell into the 'culinary' category, and also for related purposes of comic timing. (Yes, I think about such things when making a blog comment.)

My mother's hedgehog includes walnuts, and that old staple of many an Australian recipe, an Arrowroot biscuit base. I think it's quite wonderful.

Don't suppose yr mum's skills in the hedgehog department are hereditary? This hedgehog of hers sounds like the kind of thing a young gallavanter about town should incorporate into his repertoir.

The recipe is fairly simple, and I may have it written down somewhere (I can easily get it by a phone call, at any rate.)

At the moment I am quite enthused by this recipe for old-style Gingerbread. I have already given it a go, it's quite the thing, although next time I may crank the oven up a bit more and leave it in for a bit longer, as it was a little too moist.

I love the hedgehog pic since I have just been reading about hedgehog culling on a Scottish island which isn't working because they're cunning.

Very nice to meet you on Friday night at our refined blog gathering, oh sorry, that wasn't our mob at all.

Oh, I've heard about the Shetland Islands hedgehog pogrom. Sheesh. You'd think they could try catching the hedgehogs in comfy boxes, rather than trying to kill 'em outright. Poor old 'hogs.

Oh my, T. Yes, keep working on the gingerbread. Hedgehogs can wait.

JahTeh: sorry, got carried away with the hedgehog anecdote, and forgot to say how nice it was to meet you too. (Of course!)
